Extra Shots » Omkara
There was a lot of difference of opinions while finalizing the title of this film. The producer and some cast members felt that the title ‘Omkara’ made it sound like a action film, so names like ‘Issak’, and ‘O Saathi Re’ were amongst the short-listed ones. But director Vishal Bharadwaj was not happy with any of these titles, and wanted to go by his first and only choice, which was ‘Omkara’. Finally after much consideration, Vishal got his way and the film was named ‘Omkara’.
The scene where Saif breaks the mirror with his hand, was not there in the original script, and was initially shot without it. While editing, the director felt that there was something missing, and decided to shoot this scene again. The action director had put explosives behind the mirror, for the blast effect. The explosion had to be timed with Saif’s punch. After the shot, there were glass splinters all over Saif’s face and body. Fortunately, his eyes were closed during the take, and he finished unhurt.
- It was Saif’s idea to cut his hair short for the role of 'Langda Tyagi', but later shied away from the idea, perhaps because he had grown his hair long and cutting it would mean a continuity problem for his other films. Everyone tried to persuade him to cut his hair for this character, but Saif was adamant. Finally, after trying for a very long time, on the day of Eid, director Vishal told Saif in jest, ‘to sacrifice his hair to please the gods’. A night before the shoot, at around 12 midnight, Saif got his haircut.
